None of the 24-70s are perfect. According to various reviews of recent 24-70s, Canon f/2.8 lacks IS, Canon f/4 has focus shift, Tamron f/2.8 is very sharp but has slower and less consistent autofocus, Sigma f/2.8 is apparently "meh" in image quality.

The only point that remains on the wish list of a potential buyer, will be image stabilization. The Canon 24-70 mm f/2.8 doesn’t offer IS. For our Canon 24-70 II review, we attached this lens to a Canon 5D MK2 MK3, to see if it indeed delivers a better image quality than the old Canon 24-70 mm f/2.8.
What would produce better images a Canon EF 70-200mm f/2.8 L IS II with Canon EF 1.4X III compared to the Canon EF 70-300mm f/4-5.6L IS. I tend to use 200-300 length outdoors for sports, kids playing. The 1.4 would stay on outdoors while it would be removed indoors for portraits and for the 2.8 low light.
The digital pictures have released comparison images of the new RF 24-70 and the EF 24-70 f2.8 L II, both on the EOS R. The new lens seems to be a better performer at all focal lengths
The quality problems I experienced are especially disappointing because this lens has the potential to be a good one. The Sigma 70-200mm f/2.8 EX DG HSM II Macro Lens is well built - Sigma EX lenses generally are. The focus and zoom rings are nicely sized and relatively smooth-functioning with a nice amount of friction.
